It has a more vertical structure, with crisp tannins, bright acidity, and a mouthwatering, saline edge. It stands out for its freshness and definition and is highly appealing in style. In the context of the blind tasting, the focus and verticality here stood out to me and almost had me thinking it could be the Piedmont outlier.

The Ca’ Marcanda 2023 Bolgheri Rosso Magari, a blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, shows appealing richness and a soft, generous side with plump berry fruit, baked blackberry pie and sweet spice. Dark cherry/plum fruit, leather, tobacco, incense and dried herbs all meld together in a sensual, inviting Magari that is all charm. Generous and supple, the 2023 is an absolute delight. Magari is Gaja's Cabernet Franc-dominant expression of Bolgheri. Deep and plummy, it has a chocolatey nose with balsamic herb notes. The broad palate shows plummy black and red fruits, lifted and with floral top notes. Poised and very fresh, that balsamic and menthol character runs through the core with a streak of chocolate. Balanced structure.
