Made even less regularly than the L’Ermitage Brut (the last vintage was 2015), the outstanding 2019 Brut Rose L'Ermitage spent five years on the yeast. It exudes fresh-picked strawberries and summer peach along a seamless, crisp, and lengthy continuum that is complex and layered without ever being heavy. A nearly 50-50 split of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, it includes 4.5% reserve red wine, which adds body and color. Soft and undulating in medium-bodied girth on the midpalate, there are hints of fresh herb, rose, and a creaminess to the finish that feels as though it could go on for days. Continue to enjoy through 2039.

The aromas on the nose are fresh, like springtime, with notes of peach, kumquat, crème fraiche, youthful tiny red berries and orange blossoms on the nose. The midpalate is creamy Orange Julius with little fine bubbles, golden delicious apple, raspberry, acacia flowers and brioche with a lipsmacking, laser focus on the finish. Lovely! — Tonya Pitts

Roederer bought into the Anderson Valley in 1982 before the AVA was established in 1983, and their long commitment has resulted in fundamental knowledge of the growing seasons and terroir. This wine is made with a small percentage of red Pinot Noir, with over 620 acres of vines. There's a smoky tone of blood orange and piquant notes of mint and green tea leaves. The palate shows raspberry leaf herbals with toasted almond skin and toasted pastry cream. Released in the fall of 2024, disgorged November of 2023. This wine shows more concentration and phenolics.

The 2019 Roederer Estate “l’Ermitage” Vintage Brut Rosé was disgorged in November of 2023 and finished with a dosage of 5.5 grams per liter. It is crafted from roughly a fifty-fifty split of pinot noir and chardonnay, with four percent of the chardonnay being reserve wines from the 2016 vintage. Five percent of the vins clairs were barrel-fermented this year and this is the first l’Ermitage Rosé vintage to go through full malolactic fermentation. The wine’s color is its customary pale salmon and the bouquet is bright and expressive, wafting from the glass in a mix of white cherry, nectarine, bread dough, a beautiful base of soil and a topnote of dried flowers. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, brisk and precise, with fine depth of fruit, lovely soil undertow, pinpoint bubbles and lovely balance on the long and complex finish. This is certainly approachable out of the blocks, but this bottling has such an exemplary track record for graceful aging that I would opt to tuck it away in the cellar for at least four or five years before broaching bottles in earnest, as there is more here to unlock with bottle age.

The 2019 Brut Rosé L'Ermitage is light, delicate and airy. It's pretty but also surprisingly light and compact compared to the far more exuberant, expressive Blanc of the same vintage. Scents of orange peel, mint and white pepper linger. Dosage is 5.5 grams per liter.
