Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, May 2022

(98+ points) Black cherries, blackberries and garrigue all appear on the nose of the dense, concentrated 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes. Yes, the wine boasts some formidable tannins, but they're ripe, and the...

Wine Enthusiast, October 2021

In contrast to Janasse's varietal Châteauneuf-du-Pape bottlings, this expression of old vines dating as far back as 1920 blends Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah and other grapes from four distinct vineyard sites. Matured...

Decanter, October 2020

Lovely density of dark fruit, full and weighty on the palate. Powerful, long, concentrated and fresh. The alcohol is a little warming, but generally the impression is one of warmth, generosity and endlessly deep, dark...

jebdunnuck.com, November 2021

(97+ points) Lastly, the 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Vieilles Vignes is another tour de force from this estate, who are clearly firing on all cylinders today. A blend of 85% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre, and the rest Syrah that’s...

TheWineCellarInsider.com, January 2022

Deep, dark and brooding, the wine is concentrated with layers of black cherries, red plums, black raspberries, kirsch, licorice, peppery spices, espresso and earth. There is a lot of power here, so you will need to give...

Wine Spectator, October 2021

Warm and lush in feel, with steeped dark plum, blackberry and açai berry fruit flavors infused with singed savory, licorice root and warm earth notes, offering a late echo of bittersweet Valrhona chocolate. Good...

jamessuckling.com, February 2022

The striking nose of cardamon, licorice and bell pepper pulls you into the rich and concentrated palate which has good balance, in spite of the substantial tannins. Slightly chewy, long finish that needs some time to...

Domaine de la Janasse Chateauneuf-du-Pape comes from four plots of different soil types, that marry perfectly in the finished wine. A southern pebbly soil that brings body and power; a Chaupin-like soil for freshness and acidity; a red clay pebbly soil in the north of the appellation that brings structure and body; and finally a sandy-limestone soil for smoothness.
