Aurélien Suenen’s 2020 Base Year bottling of his fine Oiry Blanc de Blancs is also a young wine that deserves a bit more cellaring time before broaching. It too was disgorged at the end of June of 2023 and finished with a dosage of four grams per liter this year. It shows the lovely ripe fruit of 2020, but neatly buried in the center of the typically racy structure of Oiry. The bouquet offers up a complex blend of pear, green apple, chalky soil tones, raw almond, brioche and incipient smokiness in the upper register. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, snappy, mineral-driven and shows off superb depth of fruit at the core, with refined mousse, lovely focus and balance and a long, nascently complex and racy finish. This is going to be a great bottle once it blossoms a bit more.
