Very pale salmon in color, the Rosé Réserve NV has an attractive floral nose with teasingly ripe notes of red fruit, kumquat and pomegranate. The medium-bodied palate has a lithe acid line running throughout to accent red forest fruits with hints of spice and chalk through the long, lovely finish. A blend of 40% each of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay plus 20% Pinot Meunier; 5% of the Pinot Noir from Les Riceyes is always pre-blended with the best Pinot Meunier from the vintage, then added to the same assemblage as the Brut Reserve which includes 30% of reserve wines in the blend. This is a complex and well-crafted NV rosé with nine gram per liter dosage.

Pouring a pale salmon pink hue, the NV Champagne Brut Rose is a blended style of rosé with 5% of red Pinot Noir coming from their own vineyards in Bouzy, Ambonnay and Les Riceys. Based on the blend of the Brut Reserve, it’s a touch more reserved on opening, with delicate aromas of ripe peach, fresh flowers, and croissant dough. It’s full-bodied but has more tension and structure compared to the Brut Reserve, with a light chalky finish, and its mousse adds a delicate rounded feel and touch of spice. The current release of Charles Heidsieck Rosé Réserve non-vintage Brut is from the base year of 2014 and was disgorged in 2021, after fully six years aging sur latte! The wine’s cépages is forty percent pinot noir, thirty-five percent chardonnay and twenty-five percent pinot noir, with twenty percent of the cuvée made up of reserve wines. Five percent of the pinot noir is still red wine added to give the wine its lovely salmon color. The wine delivers a refined bouquet of strawberries, tangerine, rhubarb, chalky soil tones, caraway seed, rye bread and gently smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is crisp, full-bodied, focused and complex, with a lovely core, elegant mousse, bright acids and fine mineral undertow on the well balanced and classy finish. This is still a fairly young wine, with a nice touch of backend vinosity and will age beautifully.

This fresh rosé Champagne is framed by pink grapefruit peel acidity, showing good concentration without excessive weight. Offers a finely knit range of cantaloupe, peach skin, brioche and fleur de sel flavors. Long, creamy finish. Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier. Disgorged 2022.
