The 2023 Vacqueyras Cuvée Doucinello is especially refined this year, unfurling in the glass with aromas of lavender, peonies, rose petals, cracked pepper and ripe dark cherries, subtly framed by nuances of garrigue and exotic spice. A blend of 60% Grenache Noir with the balance comprising a field blend of other estate varieties, it’s medium- to full-bodied, satiny and enveloping, with a vibrant core of fruit, velvety tannins and a seamless texture that speaks to its origins in loamy soils. Fully destemmed and matured exclusively in concrete tanks, it concludes with a long, mouthwatering finish. This is a supple, expressive Vacqueyras that exemplifies the estate’s increasingly lifted and transparent stylistic direction. - Yohan Castaing
