Planted in 1983 to the original Wente selection before the clone was heat-treated, the 2023 Chardonnay Maresh comes from an east-facing site that's picked last and was barrel fermented for a year in 20% tight-grain Allier oak. Full-bodied, it expands beautifully across the palate with salted pineapple, apricot, hazelnut, yellow fruit, and deep, stony minerality. Despite its richness, it's bone dry, with terrific drive and remarkable length. Drink over the coming 15 years or more. Drink 2026-2042.

A wine of seriousness and heft. Exotic spices, wild grasses and camomile aromas meld with notes of ripe pear and peach. The palate threads a needle between salty minerality and rich notes of pulpy ripe Meyer lemon, savoury flourishes of verbena and thyme, and rich, almost viscous ripe stone fruit flesh.

The 2023 Chardonnay Maresh Vineyard was matured in 25% new oak plus an additional six months in stainless steel. It has understated aromas of apricot, panna cotta, beeswax, cereal and flint. The light-bodied palate has a silky texture and alluringly creamy, honey-nut flavors. It’s balanced by mouthwatering acidity and has a long, perfumed finish.
