The 2019 Châteauneuf-du-Pape A la Gloire de Mon Grand-Père unfurls in the glass with vivid aromas of crushed violets, ripe cranberry, red and black cherry, baked plum, blueberry jam, cloves, licorice and raisin. This red Châteauneuf-du-Pape mirrors the elevated level of ripeness found in many wines of the 2019 vintage. Solely made from Grenache, the wine aged for 15 months in a combination of foudre and demi-muids, 30% new. It is full-bodied, abundantly concentrated, powerful and clearly appeals to drinkers who are looking for a more modern and opulent style within the appellation. Nicolas Boiron always looks out for that very ripe fruit profile, which he neatly captured in this wine. His grandfather planted the vines in this parcel, thus the reference in the name.
