Expressive nose of perfumed red cherries and black plums. Great texture here, so much clarity and freshness - like freshly pressed cherry juice with excellent acidity giving lift to the quite heady strawberry and redcurrant nuances. Tannins are chalky and grippy but also soft and fine. The mouthfeel is round and generous, there is richness and complexity here combining minerality, florality and depth of seductive fruit flavour with a delicious menthol touch at the end. The 2019 Dufort Vivens is a brilliant Margaux, unwinding in the glass with aromas of blackberries, licorice, sweet soil tones, spices and rose petals. Full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with a fleshy core of fruit, rich, powdery tannins and a lively spine of acidity, it concludes with a long and penetrating finish. The blend is dominated by fully 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, which lends the wine immense nobility. Anyone who isn’t aware of just how good Gonzague Lurton’s wines are these days should taste a bottle. - William Kelley

Aromas of fresh blueberries, currants, crushed raspberries, tobacco leaves, lemon zest, cocoa and oyster shells. It’s medium-bodied with fine, precise tannins. Hard not to be impressed by the balance on display here, with plenty of graphite and crushed stones, savoury blueberry and cassis fruits, and a kick of rosemary, gunpowder tea and eucalyptus on the finish. This really showcases the concentration and freshness that is a mark of the vintage in Margaux. 66% new oak, and the rest in amphoras. An upscore from En Primeur.

Flowers, cherries, and tobacco show easily on the nose. The wine is medium-bodied, elegant, fresh, clean, and pure, with silky tannins and a vibrancy that give the perfect amount of lift for the sweet, soft, red fruits. Give this a few years in the cellar and it will be just great to enjoy for 2 or more decades. The wine is a blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot. The 2019 Durfort-Vivens was matured in two-thirds new oak barrels and one-third in amphorae. Plush on the nose with blueberry and violet scents, this is Margaux in style though much tighter than I anticipated. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fine delineation and poise. It's pretty delineated towards the finish that shows more mineralité than previous vintages. There is an appealing linearity here, a trait that Gonzague Lurton seeks in his wines. Excellent.
