The 2019 Riserva Castelprile shows how far these wines have come in recent years. Dark and brooding in feel, the 2020 hits the palate with loads of black fruit, lavender, espresso and grilled herbs. Even with all of its obvious intensity, the 2019 retains terrific freshness and energy. This is such a classy and elegant wine, certainly the best yet here. - By Antonio Galloni on August 2023

A certified organic blend of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Sangiovese and 20% Merlot, the Castelprile della Volpaia 2019 Maremma Toscana Rosso Riserva is a medium to full-bodied red with plenty of dark fruit, pressed blackberry and spice thanks to 18 months of barrique aging. Dustings of cinnamon and black pepper appear on the close. Production is 10,000 bottles.- ML

The nose evokes a camping trip, from plucking berries off thorny bushes to damp soil and leaves underfoot to wrapping up in a leather jacket and the smoke of a campfire. The palate turns peppery and meaty, with more berries and metallic, earthy undertones. — Danielle Callegari

This red is laced with black currant, blackberry, mint and iron flavors. Lean, turning sinewy as the dry, dusty tannins emerge. Though long, the finish is crisp. Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese and Merlot. Best from 2025 through 2036. 250 cases imported.
