The 2019 Barbaresco Riserva Rose Delle Casasse is a gorgeous showing from Cascina Baricchi, pouring a medium red garnet hue. The nose is expressive with bright red cherries, cranberries, cinnamon, dried flowers, and crushed earth. Medium-bodied, it is elegant and refined, with sneaky underlying structure that reveals itself gradually on the palate. The tannins are well-integrated, and the balance makes it approachable even now, though it clearly has the depth to evolve gracefully. 13,450 bottles were produced. Drink 2026-2046.

Cascina Baricchi is run by Natale Simonnetta, who took over the direction of the estate that his father purchased here in 1979, when Natale arrived in 1991. The first commercial release in bottle of Barbaresco from Natale was in the superb 1996 vintage, as previously he had sold off his production as grapes. His 2019 Barbaresco is a stunning young wine, offering up a pure, precise and classic bouquet of red and black cherries, spit-roasted gamebird, a touch of licorice, bonfire, dark soil tones and a topnote of fresh oregano. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, complex, tangy and ripely tannic, with a great core of fruit, superb soil signature and grip, fine balance and a very, very long, impeccably balanced finish. This is a great bottle of old school Barbaresco that is going to demand a long time in the cellar to soften up its chassis of tannin, but it will be so stunningly rewarding once it is truly ready to drink!

The 2019 Barbaresco Riserva Rose delle Casasse is fabulous. Rich and ample in feel, the 2019 is seriously impressive. There is a feeling of breadth that is palpable. Dark red/purplish fruit, rose petal, blood orange and spice blossom with a bit of coaxing. Readers can drink the 2019 now or cellar it. Time in the glass brings out the wine's inner perfume.
