Matured for 24 months in 2,500L Slavonian oak, with a small portion in barrique, this wine from the Rio Sordo MGA has a dark berry aroma lifted with hints of dried fruits, lavender and herbs. In the mouth it has a floral, wild strawberry character with a touch of mint and a streak of chocolate. Fresh acidity pinches the waist, and the finish features minty herbs, chocolate, red and black berries, and floral overtones. Delicious! (Drink between 2021-2028)

Red berries on the nose, spruced up with some mandarin peel and lightly spicy notes, following through to a medium-bodied palate with tight, firm tannins that are coated with very bright spice, giving a tangy finish. Best from 2023.

The Ca' Rome' 2018 Barbaresco Rio Sordo reveals tones of dark fruit and spice all interwoven with licorice, tar and spent embers. This is a medium-bodied red with a spicy and savory side that is specific to this rather cool vintage (with a little extra heat at the end of the growing season). The wine shows power and some light texture in the mouth. This was a release of about 7,000 bottles.- ML

The 2018 Barbaresco Rio Sordo is ample and creamy in feel. The fruit is a bit darker than in the Chiaramanti, while the presence of oak is greater as well. Black cherry, leather, spice, tobacco and menthol lend notable complexity. This is an especially virile Rio Sordo, but all the elements come together very nicely. -- Antonio Galloni

Bright floral, cherry, raspberry, spice and menthol flavors highlight this supple Barbaresco. Vibrant and harmonious, this is accessible enough to enjoy now, but will be better in a year or two. Excellent length. Best from 2023 through 2035. – BS
