jamessuckling.com, May 2021

A firm, fresh Comtes with a tight and composed palate. It’s full-bodied with a racy mid-palate. Long and persistent. Very structured with phenolics and acidity. Minerally. Floral, too. Refreshing and energetic. September...

We served this Champagne during the Connoisseur Week in 2022 also, and the last year has seen it deepen and gather complexity. If you have been holding on to it, I strongly suggest taking another look, as everything has...

Decanter, January 2022

2011 is a year that continues to surprise. Warm and dry conditions from March into May set up an early harvest, but the growing season was cool and wet, dashing grower’s hopes. Despite the dreary summer, however, some...

jebdunnuck.com, November 2022

The 2011 Champagne Blanc de Blancs Comte de Champagne is from all the Grand Crus of the Côte de Blancs except for Oiry. With a kiss of toasted brioche, caramel apple, and a hint of saline, this wine gets more savory as it...

Wine Spectator, April 2022

A minerally version, with smoke and saline notes deftly meshed with flavors of glazed apple, lemon-infused pastry cream and marzipan. This is fine and softly creamy in texture, with lemony acidity providing good...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, November 2022

The 2011 Brut Blanc de Blancs Comtes de Champagne has generated a certain amount of controversy in critical circles, with appraisals ranging from the condemnatory to the ecstatic, so I was curious to revisit a bottle with...

In 1932, Pierre Taittinger, captivated by the Champagne region and by Chateau de la Marquetterie, developed a champagne business with his brother-in-law Paul Eveque. His son Francois took the torch 13 years later, making improvements to both the cellars and the vineyards. Step by step, he established the Taittinger brand as one of the great Champagne houses, known for its Chardonnay-dominant cuvees and in particular, the prestigious Comtes de Champagne.

Taittinger was sold to US investment group Starwood in 2005, but was bought back by the family a year later. Today, Pierre-Emmanuel Taittinger has built a team to embark on a new adventure in the spirit of conquest and continuity, including the production of sparkling wine in the English region of Kent.

The Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs, Champagne Taittinger’s most rare and precious cuvee, was created as a tribute to the Counts (or “Comtes”) of Champagne who ruled over the Saint-Nicaise Abbey and to Thibauld IV in particular. The blend is derived solely from Chardonnay grapes from the highest ranked crus of the Cote des Blancs, the most prestigious source of Chardonnay in Champagne.

Produced only when the harvest is exceptional quality worthy of a vintage year, and only from the first press, Comtes de Champagne is a study in finesse. Since its first cuvee in 1952, just 30 vintages have been deemed worthy of bottling.
