The 2023 Pinot Noir Prince Hill Vineyard is elegant, silky and polished. Crushed flowers, bright red/purplish fruit, dried flowers, mint, spice and a dash of French oak are beautifully delineated throughout. The second wine in the new Ways of Wayfarer first release is a Pinot Noir from Oregon’s Dundee Hills, sourced from the Prince Hill Vineyard. Made entirely from free-run juice and 100% destemmed, this wine still delivers the depth and drive characteristic of the Mount Eden clone. The 30% of new French is noticeable but well-integrated, framing generous notes of ripe cherries, tart wild berries, plum skins, warm spices, and gentle earthy aromas. Plush on the palate, it’s a polished medium-bodied, fruit-forward Pinot that finishes long with a quiet lift of spice. (Drink between 2025-2035)

A crunchy pinot with sliced strawberry and crushed stone aromas. Medium- to full-bodied with firm tannins and a spicy, savory finish. Some white pepper and sea salt undertones. Lots of fruit, but it shows tension. Drink or hold.

2023 is the inaugural vintage of Ways of Wayfarer, a new label for grapes sourced outside of Wayfarer’s Estate Vineyard in Cazadero. Cleo Pahlmeyer and her husband Jamie Watson originally met in Oregon and spent their childhood summers there, though this is the first time they’ve made wine in the Willamette Valley. Grapes were sourced from Dick Erath’s original property in the Dundee Hills, and the wine was made at White Walnut, a boutique winery nearby owned by Chris Mazepink. The 2023 Ways of Wayfarer Pinot Noir Prince Hill Vineyard has inviting aromas of red cherries, pomegranate, damp earth, fern and mossy bark. The full-bodied palate offers power and elegance. Its concentrated, earth-and-berry flavors are seamlessly complemented by oak spice from its 10 months in 30% new, five-year-aged Taransaud Burgundy barrels. It’s framed by velvety tannins and mouthwatering acidity and has a long, spicy finish. It’s open and ready to drink! 126 cases were made.
