Aromas of lovely pomegranate fruit dominate the initial attack of de Montille's village-level Pommard Les Cras. The structure is tannic, but not overly so, and the density makes the tannins feel silky and approachable. The grapes are from 0.5ha below Rugiens, where there is some iron in the fairly deep soil over a limestone base, south of the village. One-third is fermented as whole clusters, and the wine is ageing now in cask (10% new).
