This complex Chateauneuf has stacks of cardamom, clove and hot dry earth character. Concentrated and medium- to full-bodied, this is a strikingly original wine for the 2022 vintage. With a little more depth at the harmonious finish, this would rate even higher. A cuvee based on grenache and syrah from organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

Black raspberries, peppery garrigue, flowery incense, and exotic spice all shine in the 2022 Châteauneuf Du Pape, a medium to full-bodied, layered, silky, sexy, yet still elegant 2022 that has tons to love. It reminds me of the 2009, and while I suspect it will be on a relatively fast evolutionary track, it will nevertheless evolve gracefully over the coming 10-12 years.

There’s an earthy, loamy character alongside the red currant, mocha-dusted cherry and juniper notes in this spicy, gentle-edged and plush red. Opulent yet shows a nicely lifted feel midpalate spiked with tobacco and singed anise. A few years of bottle age have smoothed and softened the tannins, which still firmly guide the finish, echoing with bitter black tea and graphite. Harmonious and long. Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre.
