Olivier Hillaire's 2020 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Terrasses is a Grenache cuvée from les Escondudes. It is on the lighter-colored side but hugely expressive on the nose, with ample raspberry and strawberry aromas, plus hints of almond paste, garrigue and licorice. Cherries and roses, with precise, raspberry-ish acidity and fine tannins. There's a little sweet strawberry touch at its heart, light extraction and no distracting oak; immediate and drinkable. It's not about depth or power, just a lovely fresh and juicy expression of Grenache. An atypically light style. Grown on galets roulés in lieu-dit Les Escondudes. Fermented in concrete, aged in old barriques. 2,500 bottles made.

There are two 100% Grenache releases. The 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape Les Terrasses comes from the Les Escondudes lieu-dit (pebbly soils) and boasts a great nose of dried strawberries, white flowers, cherries, and chalky minerality. With medium to full body, ripe tannins, and good precision and length, it’s an elegant expression of Grenache that will benefit from just a few years in the cellar. It will keep through 2035.
