This is one of the few domaines located in the village of Vougeot, so it is fitting that they own a half-hectare of this little-known premier cru, located between the Clos de Vougeot and Chambolle Amoureuses. The wine seems to partake of the character of both of these: there is the perfume, silky freshness and utter approachability of Amoureuses, but there is also the depth and haunting persistence that one can find with the best wines from the Clos.

Still deep if not as saturated as some. A few briary notes in among the red fruits, with a solid, concentrated generosity on the palate. Energy too, with vivid red fruit quite consistent with Chambolle – which is often my feeling with the Petits Vougeot vineyard. An excellent aftertaste.

(92-94 points) The 2020 Vougeot Les Petits Vougeot 1er Cru has quite an intense, quite primal bouquet with black cherries, wild strawberry and touches of violet, quite strict at first but opening nicely with aeration. (91-93 points) Cool, airy and admirably pure aromas of dark cherry, spice and floral nuances complement the refined and exceptionally intense medium-bodied flavors that also exude a bracing salinity on the youthfully austere but quite stylish finish. This is a classic LPV that is firm enough to reward a decade plus of cellaring.

(91-93 points) Aromatically deeper pitched than usual, the 2020 Vougeot 1er Cru Les Petits Vougeot offers up aromas of raspberries, plums, sweet spices and orange rind. Medium to full-bodied, ample and enveloping, with a lively core of fruit and a long, saline finish, it's a worthy follow-up to the 2019.- WK
