The second vintage of the Brunello Di Montalcino Riserva Ugolforte, the fruit comes from the top of the hill, with the grapes being more intense in their extraction, grown on more rocky and red soils. The 2019 Brunello Di Montalcino Riserva Ugolforte displays a deeper ruby/red color and has a more layered feel to its aromas of Amarena cherries, licorice, tea leaf, and toasted herbs. Medium to full-bodied, it's rich in its structure, with sanguine, mouthwatering, iron-rich mineral notes through the finish. Drink 2026-2046.

The San Giorgio 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Ugolforte (in the bottle with the black label) shows a little more evolution with spice, leather and a hint of medicinal herb. The wine is open-knit and generous. I also get a vein of minerality or a ferrous metallic note at the back. This Riserva finishes with soft texture, and I suggest a medium-term drinking window.- ML

The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Ugolforte is impossible to ignore. Zests of blood orange combine with crushed cherries, rubbed sage and exotic spice. This is soft and round with vividly ripe red berry fruits and mineral tones complicated by a hint of cedar and an herbal tinge toward the close.
