This wine delivers all the black-fruited density and loamy earth character typical of the 2019 vintage, with robust, integrated tannins and layers of dark chocolate and new cedar wood accents. Framed by zesty blood orange acidity, it carries enticing notes of tobacco and wild sage through an everlasting full-bodied finish. The Coach Insignia Cabernet Sauvignon is a barrel selection of the best lots from the winery’s estate, situated at the foothills of the Palisades mountain range in northern Napa, where vines grow on an alluvial fan that gently slopes westward, following Simmons Creek to the Napa River. The estate’s well-drained soils are remarkably consistent, comprised primarily of cobblestones and loam. This blend includes 1% Malbec.

A fragrant nose of mulberries, blueberries, chocolate, cedar and vanilla. Medium-to full-bodied with fine, firm tannins. Rich and structured with a creamy texture and a long, flavorful finish. Always in check, with balance and focus. Drink from 2024.

(93+ points) The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Coach Insignia is incredibly tight today. Bright floral and savory top notes lend brightness to a core of red-toned fruit, but there is little of the raciness I saw from barrel last year. That will doubtless come, in time, once the 2019 recovers from bottling. Readers need to be patient with the 2019, as it does not offer the immediacy of so many other wines in this vintage.- Antonio Galloni
