Opaque ruby purple, the 2019 Syrah York Mountain, matured for 18 months in 30% new French oak, opens with cracked pepper, violet, dried herbs and chargrill over a core of blackcurrant and blueberry. Savory nuances emerge as it spends time in the glass. The palate is full-bodied with concentrated fruits, a powdery yet powerful frame and fireworks of fresh acidity highlighting violet perfume on the long finish. 545 cases were made.

Dusty rose and earth tones introduce the 2019 Syrah York Mountain, further evolving to show white pepper, kalamata olive and blackberry aromas. This is cool-toned and racy in style, savory as well, with depths of mineral-tinged black fruits and zesty acidity. The 2019 finishes fresh and with amazing length, leaving fine tannins that promise years of development. The 2019 included about 40% whole clusters. Incredible aromatics of ripe blackberries, white pepper, smoked game, and iron emerge from the 2019 Syrah York Mountain, which is medium to full-bodied, has a vibrant, focused texture, beautiful balance, and enough tannins to warrant short-term cellaring. It has a kiss of almost old-school Cornas on the nose but brings stunning California fruit on the palate. It's a brilliant wine.

A very pure and authentic, northern Rhone-like 100% syrah. Dark cherries, freshly grounded black pepper, violets, smoke and grilled meat aromas on the nose. It's full-bodied with broad tannins. Creamy and textural with a rich core of berries, cherries and spices and a delicious, vibrant finish. Drink or hold.

Stewed berry, cracked pepper, eucalyptus leaf, miso paste and dried beef aromas make for a savory nose on this wine. Firmly structured on the palate with chalky, firm tannins, it offers dark berry, roasted beef and light lilac flavors. Drink 2024–2036. MATT KETTMANN
