This intense red combines power and grace, with a salty undertone to its black cherry, black currant, sandalwood and vanilla flavors. Ripe and rich, with licorice and mineral elements seeping in on the protracted finish. Best from 2025 through 2043. 39 cases imported.

Here too there is a note of herbal tea present on the exuberantly spicy nose that consists mostly of poached plum, game and warm earth nuances. The seductive, even opulent, large-scaled flavors possess very good mid-palate density that imparts a velvety texture to the powerful and beautifully long finale where once again the only nit is a touch of warmth. This is clearly built-to-age and a wine that will need at least 8 to 10 years before it's like to be drinking especially well.

The lieu à dit of Rognet is one of the warmest microclimates on the hill of Corton and this comes through in the 2019 version from Domaine Taupenot-Merme, though my gut instinct is that this is a touch lower in octane than the 2020 version. The bouquet of the 2019 is young and very classic in profile, offering up scents of red currants, cherries, Corton spices, a deep base of soil, roasted venison, a nice touch of spicy oak and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and fairly powerful in personality, with a rock solid core of fruit, fine transparency and grip, ripe, firm tannins and perhaps just a whisper of backend heat currently poking out on the long finish. Good juice in the making, but patience will be required.
