(91-94 points) Rich deep and even crimson purple. Comes across as dark and meaty after Les Rouges. Etienne thinks it has a similar profile of limestone soil. Properly rich with a drier chalky finish, good acidity. Robust and will take time. Etienne stresses the underlying freshness, given the ripeness.

This half-hectare holding in Aux Roncières, to the south of the village, is gently handled to produce a dark, cassis-scented fruit, with savoury, earthy notes of a slightly rustic nature which is very typically of Nuits. The tannins are firm and rugged, plus there is a rewarding mineral depth that comes out on the finish.

The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Roncières 1er Cru has good concentration on the nose. Presenting with red fruit initially, blacker fruit nudges it out of the way as it unfolds in the glass. Perhaps there is just a scintilla of sur-maturité. The palate is medium-bodied and fleshy, with ample tension, sufficient countervailing acidity and saturating tannins, becoming more linear toward its second half. There is wonderful purity to this Nuits Saint-Georges, and I appreciate the manner in which it evolves in the glass whilst all the time hinting at a prosperous future.
