Owned by Rémi Dalmasso, longtime winemaker at Château Valandraud with Jean-Luc Thunevin, this is from 1ha of vines planted in their garden around 1km to the north of St Emilion village and makes only 1,000 bottles per year. It's not a wine that I know well, and was an enjoyable surprise during these tastings. Does a good job of combining the power of grilled oak with a sappy, juicy and open framework. Plenty of tobacco, cedar and smoked vanilla bean edging, well-matched by damson and black cherry fruit. Murielle Andraud, Thunevin's wife, is the vineyard consultant. 100% new oak.
