(96+ points) I love this estate, and their 2019 Château Clos De Sarpe offers the newer, balanced, elegant style of recent vintages while still bringing beautiful fruit and opulence. Cassis, blueberries, graphite, tobacco damp earth, and violet notes are just some of its nuances, and this beauty hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a deep, layered mid-palate, awesome purity of fruit, good acidity, and a great finish. It's going to take a decade of bottle age to hit maturity and will evolve for 30 to 40 years. This classic, beautiful, old-school yet pure and balanced Saint-Emilion deserves a place in your cellar.

The 2019 Clos de Sarpe is off the charts gorgeous. Black cherry, leather, licorice, spice and chocolate are all dialed up. As always, Clos de Sarpe is unabashedly opulent, but in recent years there has been a touch more focus, a bit more delineation to balance things out. The 2019 is positively stunning. Espresso, wet earth, chalk, smoke, licorice and dried flowers add complexity to the red fruits. Fresh, vibrant, polished and complex, the intense mineral influence shines through the layers of ripe berries like a surgeons scalpel. If you want to understand minerality in a wine, this is the one to teach you. The salt tinged finish comes with provides a minty accent and copious amounts of ripe, red fruits and berries. The 2019 Clos de Sarpe has turned out nicely in bottle, wafting from the glass with a generous bouquet of blackberries, Morello cherries and plums mingled with hints of pencil shavings, loamy soil and nicely integrated new oak. Full-bodied, broad and velvety, with a fleshy core of fruit, lively acids and an ample endowment of fine, chalky tannin, it's a powerful but vibrant Saint-Émilion that testifies to the interest of the site. - William Kelley

Very attractive dark-plum and berry aromas with hints of flowers. Some fresh-mushroom and coffee-bean undertones. Full-bodied with round, layered tannins and a flavorful finish. Succulent and juicy. So attractive, but there are plenty of pretty tannins underneath. From organically grown grapes. 85% merlot and 15% cabernet franc. Drink after 2023.

94+ Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2019 Clos de Sarpe opens with scents of cedar and underbrush over a profound core of baked plums, boysenberry preserves, and fruitcake with a touch of violets and anise. Full-bodied with a racy backbone of acidity, it has plush, velvety tannins and a long spicy finish. The blend is 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc.

Perfumed, high toned nose. Dark plum colour in the glass. Good juicy quality, immediately quite lively in the mouth with blackcurrant and black cherry flavours. Minerality is there in the wet stone flavour and texture on the tongue alongside fresh minty aspects that lift the wine across the palate. This has a nice easy drinking appeal to it - feels well handled with a smooth and supple overall feel. A little dry still at the end, not austere in a bad way, just very chalky. Drinking Window: 2025 - 2036

Bright and polished, good quality, this is perky, well put together, a little austere even after 18 months ageing. More evident generosity in the 2018 right now, but this is poised with chalky tannins and soft raspberry fruits. Tasted twice. Aged in 600l oak casks, reining in the oak impact while maintaining a charred, lightly grilled feel.
