Redcurrant, sweet-tobacco, bark and earth aromas follow through to a full body with a creamy texture of crushed stone and pure fruit at the end. It’s tight and pure with beautiful finesse and mouth-feel. 90% merlot and 10% cabernet franc. Second wine of Angelus. Try after 2026.

Lovely aromatic profile, delicate and softly perfumed with violets. A gorgeous rush of creamy red fruits on the palate - cranberry, redcurrant, red cherry and touches of blackcurrant leaf. The texture is smooth but dense yet flowing giving flavour and restraint. You can taste the creamy, chalkiness here with wet stone nuances really reflecting the terroir with a spicy kick and cooling mint finish. The taste goes on and on. It's more delicate, less in your face than No.3 and Tempo, softer but still driven and purposeful nonetheless. The first vintage of Carillon from both dedicated vines and its own cellar facilities. This is the vintage where you start to see the results of the new plots for Carillon (one near Cheval Blanc and another in St Colombe), with supple berry fruits and floral aromatics, along with softly brushed tannins and smoke. This is elegant and well paced, with plenty of espresso and cocoa bean gourmet edging. Bottled May. 60% new oak. 20ha now dedicated to Carillon d'Angélus (with 5ha going into both Carillon and No 3 d'Angélus). New cellar for first time, reflecting the fact that since 2014 there have been plots dedicated only to these two wines.

Ratcheting up the quality significantly, the 2019 Le Carillon D'Angélus (90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc) reveals a dense purple/plum color to go with classic notes of blackcurrants, black cherries, tobacco leaf, damp earth, and spring flowers. Beautifully balanced and elegant on the palate, it has medium to full-bodied richness, present yet polished, elegant tannins, and a great finish. It's approachable today yet will be even better with 2-3 years of bottle age and have 15+ years of overall longevity.

Fresh, vibrant, soft, silky and frankly, already just delicious to taste, the wine offers up its plummy, licorice, floral and chocolate-covered cherry filled character with ease. Medium-bodied, ripe, pure and polished, you can enjoy this on release while waiting for its big sister to age and develop. Drink from 2022-2033.

(WA 91-93 points) Composed of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, the 2019 Le Carillon d'Angélus is aging in French oak barrels, 60% new. Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, it springs from the glass with floral notes of lavender and red roses with a baking spice undercurrent and a core of redcurrant jelly, blackberry pie, black raspberries and cracked black pepper. Medium-bodied, the palate is wonderfully elegant and refreshing with loads of mineral-laced black fruit layers and a firm, fine-grained frame, finishing with great energy and bags of perfume. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown

The 2019 Le Carillon d'Angélus, bottled in May 2021, has a delineated, poised bouquet of those same aromas that I observed from the barrel sample bottle – black cherries, raspberry and iris petals– though with a very slight marine influence that becomes more accentuated with time. The fresh palate is medium-bodied with slightly grainier tannins compared to last year, fine grip and a touch of black pepper toward the finish. This is a very fine Deuxième Vin that should drink well after 3–4 years, so wait a little longer than I initially advised. -- Neal Martin

The 2019 Carillon d'Angelus is a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet-purple in color, it features notes of cedar chest, wild sage, and fertile soil over a core of plum preserves and blackberry compote. The full-bodied palate is highly structured with firm tannins and tightly wound black fruits, delivering great length.
