This delicious reserva is garnet-ruby in the glass, with a violet-colored rim. It has enticing aromas of ripe cherry, red plum and saddle leather. In the mouth, there are flavors of ripe red and black fruits, dried sage and thyme, pencil lead and cedar shavings. The tannins are velvety, the mouthfeel is voluptuous, and the finish goes on for days. — Mike DeSimone

Lots of vanilla extract and minty oak to the creamy blackberries, Spanish chocolate and cinnamon spices. Juicy and tight on the medium- to full-bodied palate, unleashing vanilla cream to the bright berry fruit, followed by a very long, lingering finish. Give it two years to let the oak settle with the fruit. Try in 2025.

The 2010 Arzuaga Reserva is Tempranillo with 5% Merlot and white Albillo aged for 26 months in barrel. It has balsamic notes, aromas of incense and black pepper and a medium to full-bodied palate, with mineral tones and fine acidity. It is juicy and long, rather than round, and vertical, with a little too much oak but with good stuffing and balance to age in bottle. Drink now-2019. -LG

The 2019 Reserva is primarily Tempranillo enriched with 3% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Merlot from Ribera del Duero and was aged up to 26 months in new French oak. A dark garnet-red with a slight haze. The nose features chocolate, mocha, herbs, blackberry and plum over liqueur-like undertones. On the palate, it's indulgent but taut with reactive tannins and a concentrated structure that leads to an intense, vigorous, long-lasting finish.
