The nose has primarily umami notes of leather, graphite and dark chocolate, but macerated black cherries and blackberries create a plush, succulent undertone. That undertone grows on the palate before the dark chocolate returns on the finish, but unrelenting tannins and heat provide balance throughout. Plenty of time for aging. — Danielle Callegari

Indaco is a blend of around one-third each of Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The fruit is vinified in stainless steel with indigenous yeast followed by a 20-day maceration. Maturation takes place in French oak barrels for 14 months. In 2018 the estate experienced a summer bracketed by a wet spring and a hot September with cool evenings. Creamy, ripe, bramble fruit aromas are joined in the mouth by spicy, juicy red fruits and a streak of dark, plummy fruits. Grippy, floral and vertical, it showcases the limestone in the soils at 400m asl, overlooking the Bolgheri boundary.

(93+ points) The 2018 Indaco (a blend of equal parts Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot) is soft and richly textured. This wine is all about mouthfeel, and there is plenty of dark fruit, spice and sweet tobacco. The tannins show a dusty quality, and the wine is long and polished. Production is 13,000 bottles. Fruit comes from a 10-hectare site that is very high in elevation (above 350 meters) with lots of rocks and stones.- ML

The 2018 Indaco is classy and polished to the core. Silky and beautifully persistent, the 2018 impresses with its energy and overall poise. Mocha, espresso, blackberry jam, licorice and lavender come together nicely in this understated offering from Sette Cieli.
