The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Pedregal Vineyard is in a wonderful spot for drinking right now. Blended with 15% Petit Verdot, it has a deep garnet color and beautiful aromas of truffle, pipe tobacco, graphite and blackcurrants—if you could smell umami, this would be it! This wine was co-fermented with 15% Petit Verdot from the same rocky, hillside site. The two varieties marry seamlessly in the glass, exuding a distinct perfume of forest mushroom and violet. Though pronounced in structure the wine is also soft and round, with a dotting of dried herb and a considerable length of clove and dust. It's rich, intense and memorable. VIRGINIE BOONE

The most exciting of Ramey's 2013s, the Pedregal reveals a classic Oakville nose of plush red-black fruits, licorice and rich earth; the prelude to a modern but relatively restrained Cabernet with good acidity and refined tannin.

Shows impressive richness, size and grace. For all the depth and intensity, this features a supple, caressing element to the tannins, letting the earth, dried herb and dark berry flavors flow easily.
