Planted to 90% merlot and 10% cabernet franc in sandy clay gravel and sand across 8 hectares of non-contiguous plots. The best of these is the 5-hectare plot which surrounds the church in Pomerol. Average vine age is 35 years. Medium purple-garnet hue. The muted nose reveals some clay and red fruit aromas. The entry and midpalate are juicy with a harmonious blend of red fruit tapenade and black licorice flavors. Good structure. The succulent core is energized by wonderful minerality and acidity making for a balanced finish. This is tempting to enjoy on release but will fare well after 10-15 years in bottle. Serious effort. Part of the Moueix stable of wines.

(90-92 points) Ruby in color with floral, earth and black raspberry aromas, the wine is soft and round, medium body in weight and ends with polished, fresh black raspberries and a hint of chocolate. (NM90-92 points) Tasted at JP Moueix. The Latour-a-Pomerol has a more backward nose compared to its peers. Natural blackberry and raspberry fruit, wild hedgerow with subtle dried herb notes emerging with time in the glass. There is a gravel-like note one normally associated with La Grave-a-Pomerol. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins on the entry. It is very well balanced, very refined, but constitutes a more introspective Latour-a-Pomerol compared to recent vintages. I just need a little more depth and structure on the finish to merit a higher score, although it usually fills out nicely during maturation.

A very dark 2011 Pomerol, purple almost black at the core with very little variation on the rim. The nose opens with a deep concentration of red and black fruit wrapped in fresh flowers and exotic earth tones, complemented by notes of smoked meat and grilled herbs. The palate is medium to full bodied and right from the start it captures your senses. Flavors abound with cherry, plum jam and fig mixed with chocolate and savory spices that emerge more and more as it opens. The mid palate has a good level of acidity to keep the wines presence locked in through to the finish. This is a very good effort within the context of the vintage. Drink this now and over the next 15 years.

Shows good density, with raspberry, bitter plum coulis and red currant paste notes that lend a slightly compact feel for now. The lively spice and rooibos tea hints that line the finish should emerge more with cellaring. Best from 2015 through 2025. 1,960 cases made. –JM

This well-known estate, long owned by the Jean-Pierre Moueix family, has been making strides over recent vintages to hopefully get back to the legendary quality level of vintages in the late forties, fifties, and early sixties. The 2011 possesses a healthy dark ruby/plum color, a broad, expansive mouthfeel, and plenty of jammy cherry, spice, earth and truffle notes. Rich, medium-bodied, pure and front end-loaded, this seductive effort can be drunk now or cellared for 12-15 years. - Robert M. Parker, Jr.
