93+ The 2011 Referts from Arnaud Ente is also a very elegant and soil-driven example of the vintage. The deep and expressive bouquet offers up a mix of apple, white peach, lemon blossoms, chalky soil tones, orange zest and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very long, with excellent focus and balance, a lovely core of fruit and fine length and grip on the very refined finish. A beautiful bottle of Puligny, and a wine that will drink splendidly right from the outset. (Drink between 2013-2025)

(90-92 points) Bright straw-yellow. Aromas of peach, hazelnut and nutmeg. Juicy and spicy in the mouth but seemingly less rich and concentrated than the Seve du Clos, with peach and white pepper flavors leading to a lemony, slightly tart finish that hints at rye bread. A bit less buffering material here. In contrast to the Seve du Clos, says Ente, "this is always a more ethereal style, more dry and austere."

Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Referts 2011 has fine delineation and minerality on the nose: great precision and good intensity here. The palate is poised and focused with hints of peach and apricot. It is threaded through with a fine line of acidity and just marred by a slightly overworked yet still attractive finish. This is a commendable wine from Ente that should age well.- By NM
