With deep color, truffle, floral, black raspberry, cherry blossom, licorice and vanilla, this round-textured wine ends with plush, polished and silky boysenberry, black cherry and stone. 40% of the wine is now being whole-berry fermented in 600% hectoliter barrels, which, according to Juliette Becot, adds richness and more opulent textures to the wine. A great success for the vintage, this wine is firmly structured and expressive, bringing out a dark structure, ripe tannins and swathes of black fruits. Further generosity will develop as the wine matures. Drink from 2018. ROGER VOSS

The 2011 Beau-Séjour Bécot has a well-defined and pure bouquet with redcurrant, cranberry, blood orange and more mineralité than its peers. Fine delineation, becomes a little volatile in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, fine grip, cedar and tobacco dominating the short but delineated finish. Enjoy this over the next few years.
