The Marquis de Terme '10 has a well-defined bouquet with ripe blackcurrant cedar boysenberry and a touch of shellfish. Good lift and focus. The palate is medium-bodied with fully ripe tannins very good weight and acidity quite linear at the moment but very harmonious and cohesive towards the finish. The oak seems to be totally in tune with the fruit whereas in 2009 it was dancing to a slightly different beat. This is an excellent Marquis de Terme.

Clearly Cabernet Sauvignon dominant in terms of its fruit character, this is juicy, floral, elegant and sculpted, with good extension through the palate. There are still lots of tannins here, even after 11 years but it is elegant and with a freshness and finesse that places you in Margaux. When you go back to it after 30 minutes, there is such a lovely peony fragrance. Still a tiny trace of Cabernet Franc at this point. Julien Viaud took over from Michel Rolland as consultant in this vintage (his associate, today owner of the laboratory).

60% cabernet sauvignon 35% merlot and 5% petit verdot. Aged in 50% new oak for 16 months. A bright fresh nose offers newly picked strawberry and red plum. This is another high-toned wine that boasts excellent freshness. And while the tannins are there I think they should resolve nicely over the next few months in barrel. I look forward to trying this again as there is a lot going on and expect that this will turn into a wine of nice complexity and elegance.

This is alluring, with the sappy feel of the kirsch, dark plum and loganberry fruit melded nicely to a charcoal spine. The long, smoldering finish reveals a singed iron note and features good grip. Should evolve nicely. Best from 2015 through 2030. – JM

With a floral, dark red berry, espresso and thyme scented nose to start things off, the medium/full bodied wine keeps going, with its polished tannins, freshness and core of ripe dark cherries and cassis. Juicy, though a little on the lean side, this wine shows a strong flavor of black currant while its tannins are holding back. However, this vintage’s firm structure demonstrates the considerable investment in the chateau in the past few years.

The 2010 Marquis de Terme was picked late from October 6 to 22 and matured for 16 months in 50% French oak. It is quite backward on the nose with pure blackberry and blueberry fruit and touches of pressed violet mixed with a little bacon fat. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, fine acidity, a little more delineation than in 2009 and more salinity towards the tobacco-tinged finish. It's very fine, but a touch of dryness on the finish makes the 2009 more appealing. Tasted at the Marquis de Terme vertical. -- Neal Martin
