WS 98

Wine Spectator, November 2015

A beautifully bright and expressive Champagne, with precision and vivid acidity throughout; roasted coffee bean and graphite notes lead to a rich palate of toasted brioche, crystallized honey, bergamot and crème de...

Decanter, October 2019

The 1998 Rare was only made in magnum. Although the key word is ‘radiant’, when cellar master Régis Camus describes it as a perfectly mannered English gentleman he is maybe closer to the mark, notwithstanding the wine’s...

View From The Cellar, October 2014

I really like the style and shape of the racy 1998 Rare, which is still quite youthful in profile and needs more time to fully blossom (particularly in magnum). The superb bouquet offers up a primary blend of quince...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, October 2025

Tasted from magnum, disgorged in 2014 with a dosage of nine grams per liter, the 1998 Rare Millésime originates from a vintage marked by an August heat wave, incorporating a small proportion of sunburned grapes. Sourced...

Vinous, December 2008

Bright green-straw. Pungent, pure, mineral-driven aromas of lime, melon, white peach and honeysuckle expand with air. Fresh and sharply focused, offering lively citrus flesh and zest flavors and a suave underpinning of...

Heidsieck Cuvee Rare is a blend of 17 crus which were aged for over seven years in the House’s cellars. The blend is 70% Chardonnay and 30% Pinot Noir, both from Montagne de Reims. The appearance is a dazzling, crystal-clear, citrine yellow gold enlivened by a delicate, shimmering effervescence. The fruit emerges as delicate and golden, with muted exotic fruits (mango and kiwi) and notes of hazelnut, almond and fig. Mild spices (white pepper, smoked tea and cocoa) reflect the wine’s depth but are honed, precise, and in harmony. The palate is voluptuous, with meringue-like delicacy, while nuances of mint tea, lime, kumquat, pineapple and candied ginger evoke distant lands.
