The 2022 Rüdesheim Berg Rottland GG VDP.Grosse Lage opens with a deep, intense yet also refined and elegant Rottland bouquet of ripe and warm, well-concentrated and spicy fruits intermingled with intense terroir notes of clayish slate with quartzite and loess. On the palate, this is a full-bodied yet finessed and elegant, pure and saline Berg Rottland with a stimulating, savory and saline finish carried by the fine, crystalline and persistently saline and stimulating acidity. More austere than the Rieslings from the central and upper Rheingau, this is a classical Riesling from one of the top sites in Rüdesheim that has been cultivated with vines for more than 1,000 years. 13% stated alcohol. Screw cap. Tasted in September 2024. - Stephan Reinhardt
