From 80-year-old, ungrafted vines that were picked at 104° Oechsle in mid-October, so toward the end of the harvest, Selbach's 2022 Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese * opens with an intense and concentrated yet also refined and finely flinty bouquet that represents the old vines as well as the fine botrytis of the late-picked grapes. Dense and textural on the palate, with a complex mineral texture, fine and lush fruit and lively acidity, this is a juicy and textural Auslese with a long and tensioned finish. 7.3% alcohol. The 2022 Riesling Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Auslese* was selected for noble rot and contains around 25% botrytized fruit. It is from a parcel called Im Kalk (despite being Devonian slate) surrounding the actual sundial in the vineyard. A subtle nose brings tender candied Mirabelle notions. The palate continues with this candied stone-fruit clarity, this precise and luminous lemon-pervaded sweetness. This is heightened, bright, concentrated, pure, slender, and crystalline. The lemony length lasts and lasts. Quite fine - sweet but not luscious at 99g/L of residual sweetness. (Sweet) (Drink between 2025-2060)
