he 2022 Riesling Schloss Johannisberg Rotlack Kabinett was harvested in the upper part of the slope, closest to the Schloss, in a shaded canopy. This was also harvested after the rain. Part of the grapes was cold-macerated for two weeks and then pressed to extract as much as possible from the healthy skins. Part of the grapes received 72 hours of skin contact, yet another part was barrel-fermented without malolactic fermentation but not wood-aged - a most unusual combination. Juicy white peach beckons immediately on the nose edged with subtle crushed yarrow and an edge of grapefruit. The palate carries tart sweetness, just like the aromatic citrus, immensely mouth-watering and far too easy to drink. This strikes an alluring balance of lightness, extract and sweetness, vivid, light-footed and fresh. No wonder with analytical values of 8.3g/L of acidity and 26g/L of residual sweetness. This is an elegant, invigorating, delicious Kabinett balanced, pirouetting like a ballerina. Bravo. (Off-dry)
