The 2022 La Landonne from Domaine Rostaing is a fine young bottle of Côte-Rôtie in the making. Like all of Pierre Rostaing’s top wines in this vintage, the La Landonne has a firm chassis of tannin that will have to be waited out before the wine starts to drink with generosity. It delivers a refined aromatic constellation of cassis, pepper, coffee bean, hung game, stony soil tones, black olive, incipient notes of hazelnut, a discreet touch of cedar and a very smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, chewy and shows off outstanding depth at the core, with fine soil transparency and grip, firm tannins and fine balance on the very long, structured and promising finish, At least at this early stage, this looks likely to need a few years longer in the cellar than the Côte Blonde before it will start to drink well.
