The 'second wine' of the Clos de Tart demonstrates exceptional quality in 2022, with notes of ripe cassis and blackberry fruit accented by notes of earth and smoke. The texture is concentrated and rich, with powerful tannins and a long finish. The wine is made with younger vines of the Clos from the blocks called Jeanniard and Plantation 2005, along with some older vines coming from clonal selections, although these are now being top-grafted over to massale selection. A quarter of the grapes were fermented as whole clusters, and the wine is ageing in cask (45% new).

Ripe strawberries, fresh flowers and baking spices on the nose. Lots of fruit in this full-bodied wine, but also tannins that provide frame and form. Juicy and flavorful. Hard not to drink now, but it will age beautifully. Better after 2028.

Bottled July. A thick mid crimson purple, greater density by far than 2023. The sunny side is less evident than in the village wine, though the fruit is still fully ripe and warmly welcoming. Plenty of tannic structure, still very backward. Red raspberry with depth, tannins a little better adjusted than in the village wine.

The 2022 Morey-Saint-Denis La Forge de Tart 1er Cru has an aromatic bouquet that has opened up since last year, perhaps aided by Alessandro offering me a traditional wider Burgundy glass that heightens the red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, dark berry fruit, allspice and white pepper, leaving the mouth tingling on the finish.
