(JL 92-94 points) Leafy herbs, tobacco, spice, and black cherries are easy to discern on nose, and the palate. Elegance and freshness are the key to the wines character, along with sweet, black cherries, cocoa, and a touch of spice in the silky, refined, finish. The wine blends 73% Merlot, 21% Cabernet Franc and 6% Malbec. Drink from 2025-2035.

This is really delicious, with ultra-fine tannins that spread across the palate and caress your mouth. It's medium-bodied with lovely, succulent blackcurrants and dark berries and just a hint of chocolate. Savory. Second wine of Quintus. Drinkable now in many ways, but better in 2027 and beyond.

(WA 90-92 points) The 2022 Dragon de Quintus displays a perfumed yet elegant bouquet with aromas of spices, plums, cassis and dark berries, followed by a moderately weighted palate that is supple and juicy, with structured tannins but also a slight impression of alcohol on the finish. This is a blend of 81.6% Merlot, 12.1% Cabernet Franc and 6.3% Malbec. - Yohan Castaing

Floral and nicely scented on the nose, milk chocolate and blackcurrants. Smooth and supple, a nice energy and sense of life to this, with brightness and vibrancy to the sweet strawberry and red cherry fruits also with bite that makes it appealing and moreish. Some tension, it keeps its frame but has a really appealing juice texture and fruitiness. Straight and lean with a heavy dose of spice but appealingly textured with concentrated fruit and underlying strength. Full on and a little bit toasted on the finish.

Heavy spice, juicy black fruits, this is intense and concentrated, with a trace of heat, but plenty of personality. 3.65ph. 28% new oak. Harvest September 7 (their earliest to date) through to September 23. No external consultant. Now with the addition of Château Grand Pontet, great terroir just behind Beauséjour-Becot, with Merlot and Cabernet Franc dating back to 1945.

The second wine of Quintus, this is 12% Cabernet Franc, 6 % Malbec from the old Grand Pontet vineyards (these vines have since been top-grafted to Cabernet Franc) and 82% Merlot. It largely comes from the Quintus Sud (as they call the original vines) midslope, and Quintus Nord (the old Grand Pontet vines) top and midslope. It accounts for only 42% of the crop, and the élevage included just 28% new oak. A beautiful purity on the nose, with sweet black plum at the heart of this wine, with crushed blackberry, black pepper, violets and acacia flowers. The palate has a rather juicy and plump charm, with a core of dark fruits, and really generous wrapping of tannins adding a tightly grained structure in the middle and finish. An impressive wine which is clearly built with future development. Deliciously dark, showing more savoury dark fruits with air, this is a top result. Strangely, the high alcohol level simply does not show on the palate, the style surprisingly fresh, although as usual it makes me question how the wine will age. The alcohol declared on the label is 15.5%. - Chris Kissack
