This intriguing wine has a lovely currant fruit aroma with notes of cedar and peppery spice, along with a savoury element that Louis Trapet qualifies as 'blood', which he attributes to the soil's iron content. There is a surprising freshness and harmony to this wine, produced from the parcel they call Clos du Combe in the lieu-dit Combe du Bas just outside the village. The other parcels that had been blended with this (En Dérée and Champerrier) are now used to make the cuvée 1859.

(90-93 points) A notable intense fresh purple. Now just Clos de Combes, a substantial plot purchased from Domaine Rebourseau - back in 1924! Lots of iron oxide, which I could predict given the blood orange taste in this wine, along with fresh strawberry. Good fruit acid balance, and length.

(90-92 points) The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Ostrea is excellent, mingling aromas of cherries and raspberries with notions of peonies, spices and licorice, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy palate framed by supple tannins and lively acids. It concludes with a precise, saline finish.- WK

(90-92 points) The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin "Ostrea" comes from a single plot from Au Combe du Bas and includes 30-40% whole bunches. It has fine clarity on the nose: brambly red fruit, briar and pressed violets unfolding in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with gentle grip on the entry. It has fine structure, slightly chalky towards the finish, but it should flesh out during the remainder of its élevage. - Neal Martin
