(90-93 points) Ripe aromas include those of black cherry liqueur, kirsch, anise and a hint of violet. Here too the medium weight flavors are rich, concentrated and velvety with equally good minerality adding a similar sense of lift on the slightly longer and firmer finale. Moreover, this well-made effort possesses very good development potential, which is to say out to a decade. This too is worth considering.

(90-92 points) The 2022 Volnay Village was almost completely de-stemmed and comes from the young vines in Santenots. It has a perfumed nose of black plum, raspberry fruit, and a touch of dried iris flower. This Volnay has crunchy tannins and pure black fruit with a slightly chalky textured finish. Lots of depth, considering this is a Village Cru, perhaps betraying its Santenot origins. -Neal Martin
