This wine's enchanting blackberry and violet aromas invite the discovery of the rewarding substance and depth of this fine example of Lavaux Saint-Jacques from Domaine Denis Mortet. The texture is dense and lively, and the finish lingers invitingly. The domaine farms a parcel of 1.2 hectares of sixty-year-old vines, whose grapes are partially destemmed and carefully fermented on native yeast before ageing over two winters in a cask. It would be best to wait at least three years before drinking, and this wine should continue to improve for 10 to 15 more years after this.

(93-95 points) The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux Saint-Jacques 1er Cru includes one-third whole bunches and one-third new oak. Again, this is elegant and pure on the nose, beautifully defined with a Rousseau-like personality. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, very expressive yet understated. This doesn't need to boast. It has an effortless quality, fanning out wonderfully towards the finish. An outstanding Lavaux Saint-Jacques. - Neal Martin

(92-94 points) Just 25 hl/ha in 2022. The bottom part was hailed and therefore destemmed, while the pedicel treatment could be used above, making one third overall. Anyway, a fresh cool terroir doesn’t need much. A slightly darker fruit on the nose, along with some white pepper. Raspberry fruit, lighter and finer at the back. Very cheerful.

(91-93 points) The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux Saint-Jacques exhibits notes of cherries, strawberry conserve, rose petals and licorice, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample and succulent palate that's sweet and demonstrative, with what would appear to be a rather ripe, forward style this year. -WK
