(96-99 points) 50% pedicel treatment and two-thirds new wood, the sample taken from all three barrels. Imperial purple, very little showing on the nose, not wood either, a wealth of dramatic, dynamic fruit on the palate. Clearly another level of intensity and the pedicel approach makes the wine sing that much more. A remarkably graceful finish while retaining precision. The white pepper just adds seasoning.

(96-98 points) The 2022 Chambertin Grand Cru comprises three barrels this year, 50% whole bunches and two-thirds new oak (before it was 100%). That reduction in new wood makes a difference - very fine delineation with quite intense wild strawberry, blackcurrant and sea spray aromas and just a hint of brine. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins and hints of dark chocolate infusing the black fruit. It’s very harmonious with a smooth, almost honeyed (in texture) finish. Gorgeous. - Neal Martin

(94-97 points) Extremely subtle wood influence sets off less exuberant spice wisps on the cooler yet ripe, pure and densely fruited nose of red cherry, currant and floral-suffused aromas that are liberally sprinkled with game nuances. The detailed and intensely stony big-bodied flavors are shaped by notably firm but fine tannins on the slightly more complex and even longer if more austere finish. Like most quality examples of Chambertin, this is also going to require extended patience. Like the Mazis, the word brilliant applies.

With its focused, concentrated aromas of black cherry and plum fruit and savoury accents of game, leather, and mineral, this is an expressive, complex wine; there is still a hint of reduction that will resolve with time. The texture of the wine is concentrated and deep, with firm but supple tannins, crisp acidity, and the extract to ensure an interminable finish. This wine should begin opening in five years and will drink well for at least twenty years afterwards. (Drink between 2035-2075)

(94-96 points) Aromas of sweet cherries, berries, vine smoke, orange zest and spices introduce Mortet's 2022 Chambertin Grand Cru, a full-bodied, ample and perfumed wine that's supple, satiny and seamless, with melting tannins, lively acids and a long, aromatic finish. I suspect that, in bottle, it will emerge as the king of the cellar this year, though Mortet's Bonnes-Mares, Mazis-Chambertin and Clos de Bèze run it close. - WK
