I loved the 2022 Clos De Sarpe, a wonderfully pure, complex, seamless Saint-Emilion based on 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc. Its inky purple/ruby hue is followed by a brilliant, youthful nose of crème de cassis, spring flowers, crushed stone, and graphite. Medium to full-bodied and concentrated on the palate, it has ripe, polished tannins, wonderfully integrated oak, flawless balance, and a great finish. It offers pleasure today, yet this is built for the long haul as well and will ideally be given 5-7 years of bottle age and enjoyed over the following 2-3 decades.

The 2022 Clos de Sarpe is fabulous. Brisk, aromatic and vibrant, the 2022 captures the intensity this site is known for. Dark red/purplish fruit, blood orange, spice, new leather and dried herbs make a strong first impression. Bright saline notes liven up the finish. This is quite simply one of the best editions of Clos de Sarpe I have tasted. -- Antonio Galloni

I like what's going on here. Now, you find more intensity, as well as a softness in the previously strong tannins. The wine is rich, powerful, mineral-driven, and packed with multiple layers of lushly-textured fruits. Give it time to come together. It is worth the wait. (WA 93-95 points) A blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc, the 2022 Clos de Sarpe wafts from the glass with aromas of sweet red berries, cherries, licorice and petals. Full-bodied, broad and layered, it's no blushing violet at 15% alcohol; yet this limestone terroir has delivered a remarkably low pH and concomitant freshness, and judicious extraction during a long but low-temperature maceration means that it remains suave and seamless. - William Kelley

Plenty of plush wood spices that aren’t yet fully integrated into the rich blackberries and tapenade. Full-bodied and fine-grained on the palate, with sappy fruit and tannins. Flavorful, long and a bit woody now, but it shows potential. Try from 2029. - Zekun Shuai

An interesting nose, distinctive, with toasted redcurrant and red cherry fruits layered with vanilla. A juicy style follows on the palate, the fruit floral and scented, with peony, blackcurrant leaf and rosemary, draped within a juicy and medium-bodied palate over a core of fine, gripped tannins. There is a sense of purity, fragrance and finesse here I admire, and I can see this doing well with a few years in the cellar. Having said that, it does have the same modestly high alcohol that many grand cru classé wines in St Emilion possess in this vintage, although the palate shows no heat and seems only fresh and juicy. The alcohol on the label is 15% though.
