Ripe and filling, I love the almost instant hit of cool but juicy blue fruits and salty liquorice that expands onto the palate and settles on the finish. Tannins support the fruit, adding texture and depth to the expression, but this retains a sleek frame and direct core of flavour. Lovely energy and focus with precision. It's a little more streamlined than some others in Margaux, less bouncy, and more sleek but nicely detailed without any one element being over the top.

Gorgeous blackberry, blackcurrant and tapenade aromas follow through to a medium body with super-integrated tannins that are very refined. The thick, polished, silky texture is impressive. Best ever from here. Drink after 2029.

Cloves, grilled spice, incense, cappuccino, creamy depths to the black cherry and damson spice. The muscularity of the tannins is in full evidence, a great sign of ageing ability, intense and concentrated. Less signature Margaux than some vintages of this estate, but there is beautiful sea spray salinity running through the palate, with red rose petals, crushed and ready to rise out of the glass. With a serious depth of color, the nose bursts with black cherries, black plums, and more black fruit. The palate is rich, lush, polished, creamy, and filled with a medley of black, red, and blue fruits, alongside notes of licorice, chocolate, and spice. There is a length, opulence, and layers of ripe, sweet pit fruits that linger and expand on the finish. The wine is a blend of 69% Cabernet Sauvignon and 31% Merlot. Drink from 2027-2055.

Bottled in late June 2024, the 2022 Cantenac Brown has turned out well in bottle, exhibiting a complex bouquet of plums, dark berries and cherries, mingled with hints of pen ink, violets and pencil shavings. Full-bodied, dense and pure, with a rich chassis of sweet, integrated tannins, this is a serious, complete Margaux that's built for the cellar. - William Kelley

The 2022 Cantenac Brown was a stunner from barrel. Now in bottle, it has a vivacious bouquet highlighting blackberry, wild strawberry and cedar aromas, with hints of violet emerging over time. It shows wonderful delineation and focus. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-boned tannins, fruit that is a little blacker than its peers, gentle grip, nicely judged acidity and a very harmonious, persistent finish. This is a seductive, quite sensual Cantenac Brown worthy of their brand new winery. It’s superb. -- Neal Martin

Another beautifully rendered expression of the vintage, this marries lush boysenberry and blackberry fruit with fresh violet and iris notes, then stitches it all up gently with warm earth on the stylish, lengthy finish. It's hard to lay off already, but cellaring is warranted. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Best from 2026 through 2038. — J.M.

The assemblage of the 2022 from Cantenac-Brown is 69% Cabernet Sauvignon and 31% Merlot. The aromatics here are fragrant yet brooding and spicy, with layers of liquorice, salted dark olive, black pepper and toast, but there are scented top notes of rose and crushed gravel which feel true to the Margaux appellation. This is matched by a palate which is finely polished, with dark and savoury fruits to the fore, set within a finely polished substance, cut through by supremely ripe and finessed tannins. This is just delicious, the fruit dark and brooding but sitting within a coherently formed palate with great texture and a richly integrated core of tight-knit tannins. A very impressive composition, with a lingering grip of dark, smoky and toasted tannins. This has lovely potential, and a great result for Cantenac-Brown, a property clearly on a role. Tasted twice. Ripe red and black fruits, chocolate oak, graphite, and floral nuances all define the 2022 Château Cantenac Brown, a medium to full-bodied, nicely balanced Margaux that has integrated background oak, fine, polished tannins, and a great finish. Based on 69% Cabernet Sauvignon and 31% Merlot, from clay and limestone soils and aged 16 months in oak, it’s going to benefit from 3-5 years in the cellar and have 20+ years of prime drinking.
