Bassermann's 2022 Deidesheimer Kalkofen Riesling GG offers a pure, clear, fresh and intense, very elegant and stimulating nose of ripe, white and yellow stone fruits intertwined with saline and limestony notes. Vital and finely racy on the first attack, this intense and juicy, firmly and persistently structured Kalkofen reveals fine tannins and a dense, extract-rich core without becoming sweet or too round for Riesling. The finish is savory, saline and highly stimulating, even at this young stage. This has nice lemon and grapefruit bitters on the aftertaste. 12.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. So much peach and apricot with a touch of mango in the enticing nose. Ripe and rich with a touch of caramel on the medium- to full-bodied palate, this also has the acidity to lift all this. Attractive and very balanced pineapple chutney finish. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

The 2022 Riesling Deidesheimer Kalkofen Grosses Gewächs comes from stony, mixed but poor soils of loam, marly clay, limestone and limestone debris, surrounded by a sandstone wall, turning this into a clos. The nose is still shy, giving just a hint of salty yeastiness. The palate is creamier, rounder and has a sense of pithiness while remaining slender. The fruit is in hiding, not a bad thing, and the salty yeast takes center stage. The finish is clear-cut and could be longer. (Bone-dry) -- Anne Krebiehl MW
