(91-94 points) An exuberantly fresh nose freely offers up a combination of various dark berries, newly turned earth and plenty of sauvage character. The rich, generous and punchy flavors possess a bit more volume on the tightly wound and impressively long finish. This overtly mineral-driven effort is a combination of refinement and focused power. Patience absolutely advised.

The Chevillon family’s 2021 Roncières is also absolutely outstanding. The nose is pure, complex and beautifully expressive, delivering a blend of red and black cherries, raw cocoa, a complex base of soil tones, nutskin, gamebird, peonies, woodsmoke, vanillin oak and a hint of the black truffle tones to come with bottle age. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and sappy at the core, with great soil undertow, buried tannins and excellent length and grip on the long, seamlessly balanced and complex finish. Fine, fine juice.

(90-92 points) Scents of sweet blackberries, licorice, dark chocolate and loamy soil introduce the 2021 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Roncières, a medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy wine, with powdery tannins that assert themselves on the expansive finish. -WK
