The ‘classique' Gevrey (unlike the village-level Clos du Château) is a true 'cuvée ronde' that incorporates (this year) eight parcels from around the village, including three premier crus. The initial attack shows pure, expressive ripe cherry aromas with floral and earthy complexity. The ripe fruit continues on the palate; the wine is darker and more substantial than the Clos du Château while still showcasing the pleasantly light and fresh character of the vintage. A fluid, vibrant red, offering pure flavors of cherry, raspberry, graphite and incense. Beautifully balanced, with well-integrated tannins and a lingering aftertaste of fruit and savory herbs. Showing excellent length, this is approachable now. Drink now through 2040. - BS

(90-92 points) A little more depth of colour than the Clos du Château wine, still in rosy purple style, and perhaps offering a touch more fruit. Delicacy is at the forefront of course, encapsulated by a very pretty alpine strawberry finish.

The domaine’s other bottling of Gevrey AC is equally refined in 2021. The bouquet wafts from the glass in an enticing blend of red and black cherries, grilled meats, raw cocoa, woodsmoke, dark soil tones and a hint of oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and tangy, with a lovely core of fruit, fine-grained, buried tannins, impeccable balance and a long, complex and very precise finish. Fine juice.
