The 2021 Carbonnieux is an absolute delight. If offers up an exotic mélange of dark-fleshed fruit, espresso, licorice, cloves, leather and lavender. Deep, savory and super-expressive, the 2021 has so much going on, so much to offer. Vibrant fruits of plums and morello cherries with a touch of iodine, spices and mineral. Crunchy and medium-bodied on the palate with plenty of fresh, fine-grained tannins. Not a wine of excellent depth but the freshness and approachability are applaudable. 60% cabernet sauvignon, 30% merlot, 5% cabernet franc and 5% petit verdot. A dash of cocoa, smoke, flowers, tobacco and sweet red fruits create the perfume. On the medium-bodied palate, the wine is soft, vibrant, supple, and spicy with loads of salty, sweet, black cherries and peppery currants with another dash of cocoa to everything up nicely in the finish. The wine blends 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc, and 7% Petit Verdot. Drink from 2024-2037.
